ISO/IEC MPEG (JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11) is a standard for point cloud coding technology with a compression capability that significantly exceeds that of the current approaches. G-PCC (Geometry based Point Cloud Compression) is being developed under coordinated test model (TMC13) study. G-PCC addresses the compression of point clouds in both Category 1 (static point clouds) and Category 3 (dynamically acquired point clouds).
