ISO/IEC 15938 (MPEG-7) specifies a metadata system for describing multimedia content. It comprises a number of parts enabling descriptions for multimedia content including visual descriptions, and audio descriptions. Multimedia descriptions are expressed using the Description Definition Language (DDL) from ISO/IEC 15938-2. DDL is an XML-based language and syntax for the multimedia descriptions is expressed using W3C XML Schema.
Schema definitions are specified in the relevant parts of ISO/IEC 15938. Part 10 of ISO/IEC 15938 specifies the schema definition across all parts of ISO/IEC 15938. It collects the description tools specified in ISO/IEC 15938, assigns a namespace designator, and specifies the resulting syntax description in a single schema using Description Definition Language (DDL) from ISO/IEC 15938-2. The frequency of creation of versions of the schema can depend on a number of factors, including the frequency of creation of amendments to ISO/IEC 15938.
