HDR Video Coding

This draft amendment to the AVC standard adds the specification of a new profile called the Progressive High 10 profile, a new SEI message called the alternative transfer characteristics SEI message, a new transfer characteristics curve known as hybrid log-gamma, a new colour transformation scheme known as ICTCP, and chromaticity-derived colour transformations with variants known as "constant luminance" and "non-constant luminance" transformations.

This document provides guidance on processing of high dynamic range (HDR) video. The purpose of this document is to provide a reference for recommended practice operation of AVC or HEVC when used for compressing HDR video. This document includes a description of processing steps for converting linear light, RGB, 4:4:4 video into ST 2084, Y’CbCr, 4:2:0 video before encoding.

This document contains a plan for an HDR video verification test for single-layer coding to be conducted to test the coding performance of High Dynamic Range (HDR) content using HEVC Main 10 coding as specified in HEVC version 2. Subjective tests will be conducted in-between the 23rd and 24th JCT-VC meeting.

This document defines common test conditions and software reference configurations to be used in the context of core experiments (CE) conducted in the AhG for HDR/WCG Video Coding Experiments. These common test conditions are also recommended for use in technical contributions to the 23rd JCT-VC meeting (and 114th MPEG meeting), if applicable.

This document describes the Core Experiment 8 (CE8) on “Viewable SDR testing”.  An identified use case and requirement of high-dynamic range (HDR) video is the potential to provide bit-stream compatibility with legacy HEVC decoders.  This means that the decoder should provide a standard-dynamic range (SDR) image when presented to a legacy HEVC decoder under typical operating conditions.  This scenario does not provide a reference SDR image allowing a direct evaluation either in terms of quali

This document describes the exploratory experiment 7 (CE7), established at the 113th MPEG meeting, on investigating how to generate compressed HDR/SDR video using Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) transfer function and HEVC. The goal of the CE is to
• Clarify how HLG can be used on MPEG test sequences
• Generate HEVC Main 10 compressed video bitstream(s) using HLG
• Do informal evaluation of the visual quality of HDR and SDR displayed video

This document describes the core experiment CE6 on HDR post processing approaches. The CE relates to HDR and WCG video coding technologies and focuses on the reconstruction of an HDR video with the output decoded video from an HEVC Main 10 decoder.
In this CE, only solutions that operate as pre-processing to the encoder and post-processing to the main10 decoder are considered.

This document describes Core Experiment 5 (CE5) on HDR video coding. The aim of CE5 is to investigate the use of alternative colour transforms and sampling filters are compared to the anchors. Performance will be measured using the common test conditions and objective metrics. Subjective assessment will be optionally conducted as opportunity permits.

This document describes Core Experiment 4 (CE4) on HDR video coding. The aim of CE4 is to investigate the visual performance of anchors and test reshaper technologies on consumer monitors, and compare against the performance on professional HDR monitors.

This document describes the core experiment CE3 on objective metrics for HDR/WCG video coding evaluation.  This experiment focuses on analysis of the performance of selected luminance and color metrics.  Correlation with subjective testing of CfE responses will be conducted.
