IVC

ISO/IEC MPEG (JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11) is studying the potential need for standardization of a next generation of the IVC standard. This document is the description of Internet Video Coding Plus Test Model (ITM+) v1.0. It describes the coding features as enhanced video coding technology beyond the capabilities of IVC.

This Experiment document includes descriptions of investigations of coding modules in IVC test model plus (ITM+), to be performed for the April 2017 MPEG meeting. The experiments are divided into 4 subtests. In subtest 1, encoder optimization techniques will be explored. In subtest 2, methods for B frame coding will be explored. In subset 3, methods for large block structure will be explored. In subset 4, bi-directional prediction will be further explored.

This Experiment document includes descriptions of investigations of coding modules in IVC test model 16.0, to be performed for the January 2017 MPEG meeting. The experiment is divided into 6 subtests. In subtest 1, encoder optimization techniques will be explored. In subtest 2, methods for B frame coding will be explored. In subset 3, methods for large block structure will be explored. In subset 4, OBMC will be explored.

~~This document reports the results of a formal subjective test. The test compared the current state of the draft IVC reference software encoder against a reference software encoder for the AVC High Profile (based on AVC HP bitstreams that were previously provided in contributions from January 2014, at which time some previous testing was conducted).

The 15th IVC test model (ITM 15.0) was specified by decisions taken at the 115th MPEG meeting in Geneva. This document serves as a source of general tutorial information on the Internet Video Coding (IVC) draft international standard ISO/IEC 14496-33, and also provides an encoder-side description of techniques used in the draft encoding reference software for IVC, which is under development for inclusion in ISO/IEC 14496-5.

MPEG has produced standards that have provided the industry with the best video compression technologies. In order to address the diversified needs of the Internet, MPEG is issuing this Call for Proposals (CfP).

This CfP calls for proposals on compression technology for video in progressive format with compression capability that substantially outperforms MPEG-2 and is comparable to AVC Baseline Profile.

The 14th IVC test model (ITM 14.0) was specified by decisions taken at the 113th MPEG meeting in Geneva (19–23 October 2015) and was further refined to produce ITM 14.1 as an output of the 114th MPEG meeting in San Diego (22–26 February 2016).

Internet Video Coding (IVC) is an effort to produce a video coding standard whose baseline profile complies with the IVC CfP and is thus suitable for the usage models that are prevalent on the Internet. This work originated with a proposal made by a group of Chinese Universities. This Experiment document includes descriptions of investigations of coding modules in IVC test model 14.1, to be performed for the upcoming May/June 2016 MPEG meeting. The experiment is divided into 6 subtests.
