2029 Ad-Hoc group on MPEG-4 Audio/Systems reference model
Mandate:
  1. Develop a non-real-time implementation of a complete end-to-end audio-only MPEG-4 session, including encoding, multiplexing, transport, demultiplexing, synchronization, decoding, composition, and presentation. This implementation will respect all normative aspects of the Audio CD, and all normative aspects (including normative composition) of the Systems CD pertaining to audio. The encoding part of the target system will take a composition graph and a set of audio files as input and produce an MPEG-4 FlexMux bitstream. The decoding part will take an MPEG-4 FlexMux bitstream and produce a single audio file for presentation. When possible, this activity will utilize existing software tools in the Systems and Audio reference software.
The result will be platform-independent insofar as possible, but will run on SGI and Windows platforms in any case. It will be completed in time for demonstration at the Tokyo meeting. The source code will be made available to the IM1 project.
  2. Review the Systems and Audio CDs in light of this activity.
  3. Develop bitstreams for internal demonstration within MPEG which accurately represent the perceptual quality, high compression, and advanced functionality of MPEG-4 Audio. Develop different bitstreams with public-domain content for public dissemination if possible.
