3.          Study the potential need for the additional standardization of an exact finite-precision IDCT (and possibly an example forward DCT) algorithm that meets all conformance requirements for IDCT in MPEG standards and determine the requirements of such a standard toward potential issuance of a call for contributions on the subject

4.          Identify and draft corrections for any errors found in the specification of IDCT requirements in MPEG standards

AHG on MPEG-4 Part 9: Reference Hardware Description Phase 1 and 2

Mandate:

1.      To collect and coordinate contributions of MPEG-4 video modules described in HDL from Part 2 and Part 10.

2.      To continue the analysis of HDL modules for HW acceleration of MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC), to select relevant modules and coordinate development and submission of such selected modules.

3.      To continue verifying the conformance of submitted HDL source code and associated documentation with the requirements stated in the newly updated “Call for Submission” document N6506 and template “Template for MPEG-4 Part 9 HDL module documentation” document N6507.

4.      To evaluate the interfaces of each module so that the specification of common interfaces might enable modules submitted in phase 1 to be directly reused for phase 2.

5.      To continue the evaluation of tools suitable to support implementation of phase 2.

6.      To proceed with the definition and possible extensions of the MPEG-4 Virtual H/W-S/W Socket that interfaces the HDL modules to the MPEG-4. generically optimized reference S/W part 7 and AVC part 10.

7.      To proceed with functionality updates and releases of the MPEG-4 Integrated Framework that interfaces the HDL modules to the MPEG-4 generically optimized reference S/W part 7 and AVC part 10. 

8.      To specify reference architectures showing the usage of MPEG-4 Part 9 Reference hardware description in an example application.

9.      To continue the development of the reference HW demonstrator.

Ad Hoc Group on MPEG File Formats

Mandate:

1.      Revive the mp4 adhoc-group in systems to start initial investigations to provide support for scalable video in the mp4 file format.

2.      Investigate the pros/cons of storing scalable video elementary streams in mp4 as an entire single stream vs. a multiple stream approach (one ES for each layer).

3.      Initiate discussions with the Video Group, about issues such as access unit definition for scalable video streams.

4.      Explore signaling of layering information at the elementary video stream level.

5.        Explore the current structures present in the ISO 14496-12 format, that can be extended to support the storage of scalable video.
